Bringing Therapeutic Gardens
to Public Parks

Therapeutic Gardens at
Tiong Bahru Park and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park
Area: 750 - 900 sqm
Completion: 2017

As part of the National Parks Boards’ plan for a network of Therapeutic Gardens in Singapore, the gardens are designed to be equipped with features that cater to the needs of the elderly, including those with dementia, and also to provide a holistic rehabilitative environment to relieve stress and stimulate restorative effects for the mental well-being of all visitors.

The gardens are strategically located close to several eldercare facilities and services. Developed as site-specific spaces, the design of the gardens involved collaborations between Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Gerontologists, and other healthcare professionals through the implementation stages. Both gardens are curated with 4 zones – Fragrant Zone, Edibles Zone, Colours & Texture Zone, and Biodiversity Zone – each reflecting various sensory qualities that progressively engage the users.
